I don't really have anything new to post but I figure i better write something if i'm going to remain a respectable blogger. ;-)

So, Christian and I pulled off a really kick ass activity today with the kiddies.  The activity was all about animal habitats, so we got all this green and blue fabric and made a 12 foot by 6 foot floor covering that looked like a stream and a pond with grass on either side of it, and then made this tree that was about 5 and 1/2 feet tall.   We used animal puppets to introduce the idea of animal habitats ("where does the squirrel live? Okay I'll put him there. Where does the frog live? Okay." etc.) and then we did the chant "We're going on a bear hunt" which is common enough to be familiar to some preschool teachers but not so common to be stale.  And the kids got to act it out, going around the tree, and over the stones, and "swimming" through the pond, and finding the bear at the end under this big cloth we set up.  It may not sound like much in that brief description, but the kids LOVED it.  And we spent so much time last week making that large scale habitat!!!! I sewed the floor covering and the tree covering by hand.  But it was magical, and they loved it.

It's a doubley good feeling: one knowing that something you were responsible for went well, and two knowing that it did so directly because of the effort that you put into it.
