Well I'm back in Ithaca!!! My boxes are all unloaded into my apartment. For those whom I haven't told, I have a one bedroom apartment conveniently located near a bus stop that can get me to campus quickly. And in addition, thanks to the protesters who objected to Cornell cutting down the redbud trees to make a parking lot, I get a free bus pass! Wheee!!! I was going to buy one anyway because I don't want to deal with driving to campus. It will take too long, as I found out this morning. I mean the undergrads don't even arrive for four more days, and already it's hard to find a non-pay parking spot in CT. The meters are of course open, but who wants to pay for the meters? Unfortunately I won't get the bus pass until the end of the week, so for now I have to deal w/ the traffic. Steal it's a nice change to be able to run up to the mall and so forth w/o having to deal with the buses.
It was quite a nice day yesterday. Rob got a hand truck at Lowe's (Ithaca now has Lowe's, Walmart, Chili's and Bed Bath and Beyond down on 13 - or rather Lansing does, WHEE!) which made getting the boxes into my apartment much easier. Because of the location of the apartment, our choices were either park on a VERY busy street to unload or park almost a block away. Rob took all the heavy boxes like a model boyfriend. :-D With the handtruck, of course.
Then we went out to dinner with Patti, and after the two of them left I went over and saw El's new house. El and I went to get bubble tea and walked all around campus for a couple hours talking. It was nice to reconnect, and a relaxing end to the evening. It wasn't actually the end though; I got home and went back to unpacking. About midnight I started trying to go to bed, but I kept thinking of one more thing that would be easy to put away so why don't I go ahead and do it, and consequently didn't get to bed until 1am.
And now I'm feeling guilty because I've spent this whole morning in CTB surfing the web for pleasure stuff, instead of reading the novel I'm supposed to finish by next Tuesday. So I better get down to business - like getting to the Verizon store and straightening out this whole "my headset jack doesn't work" thing, because I'm in NY now and I can't drive and hold the phone to talk. And in any case, in this part of the country I wouldn't want to try. Even driving a manual, I did okay in Missouri where it's fairly flat, broad, and straight. I could let go of the wheel in order to shift when necessary. That soooo does not work in Ithaca! But anyway, yeah, I need to go be useful.
